Hird is taking delivery of new truck mounted access platforms and it introduced the brand back into the UK powered access market.
As the new UK and Ireland distributor for the Italian platforms, Hird is preparing to meet expected strong demand for the highly-capable machines.
Hird personnel took time to familiarise themselves with two Oil&Steel truck mounted platforms at the company’s headquarters in Hull, East Yorkshire.
Driven on care licence
The Snake 2010H Plus is an articulating platform on a 3.5t IVECO chassis so can be driven on a standard car licence.
It delivers a maximum working height of 20m and a maximum working outreach of an impressive 10m, combined with excellent up and over performance.
The Scorpion 2013 has a three-part telescopic boom based on the same 3.5t IVECO chassis and provides a maximum working height of 19.9m plus a maximum outreach of 12.5m.
Hird Managing Director Phil Hird said: “These are great looking truck mounted platforms and they’re highly capable, with excellent safety features and easy-to-operate controls.
“We’re confident our Oil&Steel platforms will do very well in the UK market. There is strong demand for a vehicle that can provide working at height at multiple locations in one shift.
“Oil&Steel truck mounted platforms are proven, robust and have excellent features that make them easy to use and deliver quick and safe working at height.”
Quick to set up
Working at height tasks the Oil&Steel platforms are well-suited to include telecommunication installation and maintenance, light maintenance, tree surgery and property maintenance.
For example, the growing ash dieback problem in the UK – putting at risk millions of roadside trees – is already creating demand for working platforms that are quick to set up and get to work.
The roll our of the 5G telecommunications network and other major infrastructure projects, such as HS2, are also adding to demand for flexible and productive working at height options.
The Scorpion 2013 truck mounted platform has an impressive 250kg basket capacity at a restricted maximum working height of 19.5m. It is designed to provide particularly fast set up and stow functions, boosting working at height productivity.
Highly compact
The Snake 2010H Plus has a very compact outrigger footprint making it an excellent choice for operating in confined spaces. On top of that, outriggers can be deployed in various configurations to take account of space and obstacles at the set-up site.
The truck mount platform’s double pantograph boom allows the basket to be moved up and down the side of a building in a perfect vertical plane, with no adjustment of controls, aiding safety and productivity.
